Best Lisbon neighbourhoods
Deciding where to stay in Lisbon can be quite the task. Some of the key things to consider are accessibility (remember that Lisbon is very hilly) and proximity to public transport.
It’s easy to get around using the underground metro and famous Lisbon trams, so you’re never too far from where you need to be no matter where you stay.
Using Airbnb in Lisbon will give you access to some of the less-touristy areas beyond central Baixa. Here are just a few neighbourhoods that are suitable for visitors.

Chiado: The historic centre of Lisbon is central to most of the big-ticket attractions and a huge selection of restaurants and bars. If you want to be right in the heart of the action, this is one of the best neighbourhoods in Lisbon to base your stay. It’s also very easy to get around from Chiado, with metro stations and several tram lines all within walking distance.
Alfama: Lisbon’s oldest neighbourhood is a tapestry of cobbled streets and pretty apartment buildings. There is a strong community vibe here, which makes it a lovely place to stay. Just note that transport options are more limited as you’re always a little bit of a walk from the nearest metro.
Anjos & Mouraria: Mouraria (the Moorish Quarter) and Anjos are alternative neighbourhoods north of Alfama. Both areas are very multicultural and hip, with plenty of cool cafes and street art. Note that the feel here is a bit more gritty and less polished than downtown Lisbon. If that’s the vibe you’re after, both these areas have a great atmosphere.
